What do I celebrate? What do Christians celebrate?
A visit to a church to see not only how the building itself is decorated as part of celebration but to see and talk with Christians who are actually celebrating.
Experience Harvest Festival in the church using artefacts, music, art, food, silence etc. The children can begin to explore what Christians celebrate, how they celebrate and most importantly why they celebrate. How do the children feel?
Symbolism- harvest of the sea, earth, under the earth etc

How does it feel/what happens to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr?
A visit to a mosque not only to see how the building is used for celebrations but to see and talk with Muslims who are actually celebrating/fasting.
Using artefacts, food, the call to prayer etc the children can begin to explore what Muslims do to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, why it is important (after Ramadan) and how they feel at this important time.
Gifts of nuts, dates, honey . How does this make the children feel?

What makes a church special for Christians? (ritual)
The opportunity to experience how it feels to be in two special (holy) places for Christians within the church building.
In Dewsbury Minster (NKCFC) this includes the wonderful East window depicting the crucifixion and the peaceful Paulinus Pikgrimage Chapel.
In Huddersfield Parish Church (SKCFC) this includes the Four Apostles stained glass windows, the road to the crucifixion window and the altar under the golden canopy.
Children can `get inside' the Bible stories, respond sensitively to them, be silent and reflective using a variety of teaching methods including `feelie' bags, visualisation and questioning.

What makes a mosque special for Muslims? (ritual)
The opportunity to experience how it feels to be in different special places within the mosque.
In Masjid-E-Noor (NKMFC) this includes the Madrasah rooms, washing room for Wudu and the Prayer Hall.
Children will be encouraged to reflect on what it feels like to remove their shoes, cover their heads, to kneel on the floor etc.
They will have the opportunity to watch what happens in preparation for prayer, to hear and respond in individual ways to the call to prayer, to discuss and ask questions and Diamond prioritising phrasing

How is it best to welcome a new baby? (Islam)
Key words: Aqiqah, Shahadah, Qur'an
Children have the opportunity to meet a Muslim family at the Mosque, and use questions & answers to discover how they celebrate family life.
What happens when a new baby is born? Simulation of ceremony (4 parts). What does it mean to belong? How does this make them feel?

What does it mean to belong?
Two Learning Packages available.
- a visit to the Sikh Gurdwara to experience langar, care for the whole community (Sikh or not)- a new Package currently being piloted!.
- a visit to a church for simulation of infant baptism using baby doll and font. Children receive invitations, and given `roles' before arriving at the church!!
Pictures of water around font. Children look and talk to each other about uses of water. Can they relate these to baptism? `Feelie' bags of baptism artefacts inc. shower head, watering can, water bottle to get them thinking.
Baptism service with children in role! How did they feel?
Mini party with toasts/speeches for baby etc!
Does it end here? What happens next? Opportunity to talk with baptised members of the community.
