Prayer and Reading from the Dharma Text
What Happens
We see and hear a reading of the prayer, ‘Dedications for Wishfulfilling Jewel Puja’. After this, the Buddhist Scriptures are uncovered and a short section is read. Note how the scriptures remain covered when not in use.
Background Information
Buddhists see all Dharma books as supremely precious because these are the instructions on how to abandon self-grasping ignorance and achieve a state of permanent lasting peace and happiness through the path to enlightenment. Because of this they are treated with the greatest care and respect.
Dharma books are covered in fine cloth and kept off the floor.
Questions to Discuss from the Film:
- How are the prayers similar to and different from those in another religion?
- How is respect shown through the prayers and reading from the Holy Scriptures?
- What questions do you have?
